IVORY THRONE

The circular room, obtained in the Roman tower of Porta Salustra (1^th century), contains the very famouse throne of Maximian in ivory, that "constitues undoubtedly the most beautiful of which the ancient workd has handed down to us". (Prof. Bovini) It is a masterpiece of the early christian ivory sculputer and it is composed by beautiful  reliefs and elegant drawings of the figures and of the decorations. There are very beautiful the panels on the sides containing the Joseph and his brothers history.
