BASILICA OF THE SPIRITO SANTO It was the church of the Arian bishops and was reconsecrated to the Catholic cult by Archbishop Agnello (557/570). The façade is dominated by the portico of the 16th century. Inside it has three naves divided by fourteen columns surmounted by Corinthian capitals and pulvinoes. The ambo in Istrian stone dates back to the 6th century. It has little columns which form three aediculae with cantharus and shell, vine shoots, grapes and acanthus leaves. The
apse, poligonal outside, has three original windows and the high altar
is borded by two baroque angels. |
